Median ROAS for Pets & Animals brands in Triple Whale's Google Ads benchmarks, Aug 2025 to Jul 2026, from more than 21,000 brands using Triple Whale across all industries. This is revenue-based ROAS, not POAS: multiply it by your own margin after returns to get POAS. The page doesn't state which attribution model it uses, and brands using one analytics vendor aren't a random sample.

POAS divides the gross profit a campaign produced by what you spent to get it. At 1.0, ad spend used up every dollar of product profit the campaign generated. Above 1.0, the campaign contributes to fixed costs and net profit; below it, each sale loses money before overhead is counted.

No published POAS benchmark for pet products is built on real account data. The figure above is the closest credible number: the median Google Ads ROAS for pets and animals brands in Triple Whale's dataset. The same dataset shows pet brands bucking the wider trend. Between August 2025 and July 2026, Pets & Animals was the only one of its 15 industries whose median cost per acquisition fell (down 3.78% to $25.05) and the only one whose conversion rate rose (up 1.59% to 4.40%). Pet shoppers convert. The question for POAS is what each order leaves behind once it has been shipped.

What moves a pet store's POAS

Consumables and hard goods are different businesses

Food and treats are the largest part of US pet spending: the American Pet Products Association puts them at $68.3 billion of $158 billion in 2025, against $34.4 billion for supplies, live animals and over-the-counter medicine. Consumables and hard goods such as beds, toys and carriers can carry very different margins and very different shipping costs, so an account that blends them into one POAS figure hides which half is paying for the other.

Shipping weight on food and litter

Shipping cost follows weight and size, not price. A large bag of food or a box of litter can cost much more to ship, relative to what it sells for, than a toy or a collar. Google Ads records the order value; the shipping you pay comes out of margin afterwards, and on heavy orders it can take most of it.

Autoship and repeat orders

Pet consumables get used up on a schedule, which makes them strong repeat purchases. In Recharge's subscription data, 96.2% of first-time pet supplies subscribers completed a first reorder and 15.3% of the cohort reached a sixth, the strongest tail of the five categories Recharge compared. Its pet renewal cycles also had the lowest active-churn rate of the five, at 15.4%.

Those repeat orders mostly arrive without an ad click, so Google Ads doesn't count them. First-order POAS can therefore understate what a pet customer is worth, but only by as much as your own customers actually reorder.

Turning the median ROAS into POAS

POAS equals ROAS multiplied by your margin after the shipping you pay.

Illustrative arithmetic with made-up round numbers, not a benchmark.

A campaign at a ROAS of 3.0:

  • Selling mostly heavy food at 20% margin after shipping, POAS is 3.0 × 0.20 = 0.6.
  • Selling mostly hard goods at 45% margin after shipping, POAS is 3.0 × 0.45 = 1.35.

Same ROAS, opposite answers.

  • Convert before you compare, and convert consumables and hard goods separately.
  • Count shipping in margin. On heavy products it can be the biggest variable cost after the product itself.
  • Below 1.0 on a first food order is only acceptable if your measured reorder rate pays it back.
  • Above 1.0 on hard goods means room to scale, since those orders don't depend on a repeat to break even.

Why a benchmark is only a starting point

Your break-even line depends on your mix of food and hard goods, your shipping costs and how often your customers reorder. Use the median to see where pet accounts typically sit, then set separate targets for consumables and hard goods from your own margins.
